Good news from the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. Although the IBTS are not accepting first time blood donors at the moment, they are making an exception for people with Haemochromatosis who wish to be donors. Check that you are eligible by calling 1850 731137 or go to www.giveblood .ie

HOSPITALS

At a national level according to HSE current guidelines, non-urgent healthcare work is cancelled in hospitals at the moment. This approach (i) enables patients (including those with Hereditary Haemochromatosis) to decrease their potential exposure to the Coronavirus and remain safe at home (ii) allows practitioners and medica to create a hospital capacity to treat acutely ill Covid-19 patients as required, and also (iii) allows health care workers to go to busier areas of the healthcare service as needed at this critical time.

Please also check with your own Hospital or GP to see what the situation may be in relation to your personal circumstances. (Updated 11th April 2020).
