AGM 2025 & Guest Speaker Presentation

Our AGM 2025 took place in May this year at the IBTS Head Offices in St. James’s Hospital, Dublin. We would like to extend a warm and sincere thanks to all our members who attended our AGM. Thank you to our new Voluntary Chair, David Beggy for chairing the meeting and sincere thanks and farewell to our outgoing Chair, Dr. Maurice Manning. David also thanked members of our voluntary board for giving of their time and expertise, Philip Maree, Leo Mullett, Brendan Keenan, Luke Mitchell, Philip Dunne, Paul Cashman-Roberts, Frank McHugh and Brian Keegan and our Honorary President, Margaret Mullett.

Margaret Mullett, our Honorary Life-time President thanked Dr. Manning for his invaluable contribution to the work of the Association over 20 years as a board member and Chair. Maurice ensured that the Association met with all Health Ministers and in 2006 set up a working group to advice the Tanaiste and address patients concerns. As a result the Association received a donation of €100,000 which allowed the work of the charity to continue. Margaret thanked Maurice for his tremendous work and commitment to the Irish Haemochromatosis Association and for his enduring friendship and kindness.

The Chair thanked Brendan for his wonderful work for the association over many years. The Chair also welcomed our new Treasurer, Luke Mitchell. Luke brings an extensive business and project management skillset to the work of our board and has worked for leading multinational corporations in the financial and IT sectors.

Treasurer’s Report

Outgoing Treasurer, Brendan Keenan presented the Treasurer’s Report and thanked our members, volunteers and the HSE who contributed to and supported the Association in 2024.

Our Guest Speaker, Professor Frank Murray, Consultant Gastroenterologist/ Hepatologist, Beaumont Private and Bon Secours Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the RCSI and Chairman, Alcohol Action Ireland delivered an excellent presentation on the day.
